| Why is this course unique? Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri Method presupposes that healthy singing is based upon free and full use of the vocal mechanism in partnership with the body. It promotes self-knowledge, musical intuition, and the artistic uniqueness of each person and voice. Instructional materials are flexible and can be adapted to fit each professional’s individual approach. Somatic Voicework™ (SVW) is Jeannette LoVetri’s body-based system of training for Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM). With its roots in the 250-year-old traditions of classical singing, Somatic Voicework™ incorporates techniques derived from the disciplines of speech pathology, acting, movement, and yoga. Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) is a term used to refer to non-classical music. This term encompasses jazz, pop, blues, soul, country, folk, and rock styles. Level I Certification is for anyone who currently works with or desires to work with CCM styles. It will present an organized pedagogical approach based on vocal function and the principles of voice science and medicine. Level I Certification is designed to educate the eyes and ears of voice professionals about the healthy use of the voice in any CCM style. Through live and recorded examples, program participants will develop enhanced perception, sharpened aural discrimination, and increased accuracy of the diagnosis of vocal health and production issues. Jeannette LoVetri, creator of Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri Method, is a pioneer and recognized expert in the field of healthy vocal training for all styles of non-classical music, and has been teaching since 1971. LoVetri has taught throughout the U.S.A. and in Europe, Australia, and South America. She is a consultant in the retraining of injured voices for several of New York’s largest hospitals. Her students perform leading roles on Broadway, and at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She has been the singing specialist with the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus since its inception in 1991.
